Sunscreen and Life Changes

I know my life has changed because I wear more sunscreen.

I looked in the mirror the other evening and couldn’t figure out why my face was so pink. I swear I put sunscreen on, why am I burnt on a workday? My husband peeked around the corner and said helpfully “It’s because you don’t reapply”.

“What, why would I reapply? I was only outside for a few hours.” Then it dawned on me. No, I was outside all day. I spent the morning writing and the afternoon taking coaching calls walking in the wetlands near us. 50 SPF can only do so much if it’s stretched across a whole day. Damn. 🧴

My first thought was – guess I better start reapplying, so I don’t get skin cancer. My second thought was – In the 7.5 years we’ve lived in the UK, I have never worn this much sunscreen on a daily basis. In fact, this is the first period in a long time that I have put on sunscreen everyday of the week. My tiny bottle is already empty.

The last time I wore this much sunscreen, I lived in a jungle close to the equator. The time before that, I was a Day Camp Director. That’s pretty much it.

🏞️ The simple fact of needing to reapply sunscreen means my life has changed, and I’m still adjusting. I have wanted to work outside for years. At one point, I even made a list of alternative careers with park ranger and botanist on it. I’m still working on spending more time in the mountains and forest, but I’m moving in the direction I want to be.

Working with a coach, and being coach, has helped me know where I want to go and move towards it consciously.

What small indicators of change are you noticing? What direction is that taking you?

Let’s notice together. 👀

Let’s get you moving in the direction you want to go.
